Prof. Ts. Dr. Intan Zaurah Mat Darus
Background
Professor Intan Zaurah Mat Darus is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, appointed with effect from 7 July 2025. She leads the university's academic enterprise and its international partnerships, and is a member of the UTM Senate. A Professor of Mechanical Engineering, she earned her PhD at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom in 2000, making her one of UTM's senior leaders with deep British academic roots. Her research sits where mechanical engineering meets artificial intelligence: intelligent and evolutionary control, active vibration control, swarm intelligence and neural networks applied to real engineering systems. She has published around 180 works with more than 1,800 citations and an h-index of 21, and has led twelve funded research projects, from self tuning evolutionary controllers for automotive air conditioning to intelligent embedded controllers for offshore marine risers and community living labs.
Research Interests
Artificial intelligence and robotic systems, instrumentation and control in mechanical engineering, active vibration control, genetic algorithms, neural networks, fuzzy logic, swarm and evolutionary algorithms, system identification, modelling and dynamic simulation, and computational intelligence.
